Just an extremely quick hitter for all of you. The T&T contest submission deadline has been extended. You now have until March 24, 2008, to enter the contest. Furthermore, I would really like to see more Triumph entries! Keep the submissions rolling in guys and gals!

Grammar Nazi...RAWR!

So, in my grammar nazi tirade, I decided to hopefully clarify a very commonly misused writing technique. I've entitled the piece Grammar & You - Synedoche and Metonymy, and I've made it a handy dandy news article here. Enjoy!

No real updates here. Keep the entries flowing in guys! I'm still looking for donations as prizes to add to the pool. If you have anything, and I mean ANYTHING, be it journal features, dA gear, subscriptions, whatever...give what you can, and we'll make sure some worthy deviants end up with some good stuff.

It's Monday already? Damn...

So, this weekend has been a wicked long one. I feel like it was Friday 3 hours ago, and here I am, staring down Monday face to face. I did manage to get a crapload of stuff done, which would explain the lack of updates here. I managed to help the wife get the house all spiffy, helped my brother-in-law with his truck, helped my father-in-law with his car, bought a car myself, and went to my sister-in-law's baby shower. OK, enough bitching about my 30 hours in a day getting vetoed...update time!

So, instead of posting the entire thing over and over, I decided to just write a news article, because I'm really REALLY lazy. You can find it here. Now, for the updates!

**Fourth judge announced, and you guys will love this one. Our fourth judge is none other than $Moonbeam13 herself. That's right, the big dog of AR is gonna help little ol' me run a contest. I feel special, and not in the short bus type of way. Thanks Danie, I owe you like three now

**Fifth and final judge announced, and I went to the well again on this one. So, I had to ask someone who I know is really busy, but I hoped she'd come through for me, and she sure did. Welcome `pupasoul to the team! That's it folks, there are your judges, let the brown nosing begin!

**I mentioned before that we had prizes. So far, we have a subscription of undisclosed length and a knapsack from ^shell4art, and a huge journal feature by *Iriesurfinchick. I'd like to thank these people ahead of time, because you guys are what makes a contest fun. And, for the record, I'd love to have much more to give away, so seriously, if you're one of those giving types of people, or you have connections, feel free to give to us for this contest. I can assure you, you will not be disappointed.

Contest Update and Other Stuff

Just some quick updates to the contest.
--$Moonbeam13 has featured the contest in the Artist Relations Newsletter, along with the uber-sexy, ultra cool, wicked sick...yeah, stamp!
--$FallenRox has featured the contest in her journal under contests!
--^shell4art has agreed to help promote the contest, and make some donations to the prize pool!
--^hellfirediva threatened to use the whip on me...oh wait, that wasn't supposed to go here

Is it just me, or is AR just that awesome? Seriously, if any of you guys read this, I sincerely thank you. Not just for helping me make this contest a reality, but for everything. You guys took what could have been deviantART's darkest hour, and have transformed this site and this community into the best on the internet. A year or so ago, I was ready to shut down shop here, and this staff, along with some of the people I admire, have managed to suck me in for life. This definitely deserves a W00T!

Regarding the contest, I would like to bring in two more judges, and I need people who aren't photographers...I have enough of them (LOL). So, if you have ever crossed my path, and you dabble in the digital realm or artisan crafts (yes, I'm a closet fan of this group), please send me a note!

What? A contest? DAMN RIGHT! Without further ado, I present to you, my very first contest, titled Triumph and Tribulation. The premise is simple. I want artists to show me, by any medium, the best and worst life has to offer. Be it by story, photograph, digital creation, or intricate craftsmanship, this community has an amazing ability to show emotions through artwork, and I want to see it!

Triumph: the joy or exultation of victory or success
Tribulation: distress or suffering resulting from oppression or persecution; also : a trying experience

Here are the rules:
Submission Guidelines
--To enter the contest, you must send me a note, with "T&T" in the title, a link to your deviation, and whether you're entering for triumph or tribulation.
--You can only submit your own work.
--All entries must adhere to the submission policy of deviantART. This includes not submitting a miscat or something that violates another's copyright.
--All categories are open to enter.
--Entries must be noted to myself between right now (1/21/2008), until Midnight Eastern Standard Time, February 28, 2008.

Judging
Beginning March 1, 2008, the judges will narrow down the field to five deviations for the Triumph category, and five deviations for the Tribulation category. Currently, there are three judges, myself included, to assist with this, and two more coming on board shortly.

On March 8, 2008, we will announce the semi-finalists, a poll will be put up for both groups, and the poll accounts for 100% of the vote. You, the Deviants, will decide the finalists.

Once the finalists have been determined, the real fun begins. One triumph Deviation will square off with one tribulation Deviation, and a second finals poll will take place. Again, the poll will determine the winner wholly. The winner will be announced on March 17, 2008.

Prizes
Currently, the only prize I have to offer is a stamp declaring your victory, however this will change. I have contacted numerous people to see what we can get going here, and I'd like to have a little something for each of the semi-finalists, and something nice for the finalists. So, if you have anything to offer at all, be it prints, subscriptions, custom avatars/stamps, journal features, whatever...ANYTHING, please contact me and I'll add you and your donation to the list. Since we're technically declaring two winners (albeit we're pitting them head to head), I want this to be grand scale.
